Treatment of Periodontal Disease
Dr. Lon Riemer is your St. Albert dentist, focusing on family dentistry, pediatric dentist and much more.
Periodontal disease is very common and can vary in severity and distribution in a person’s mouth. When there is a pocket between the gums and the tooth that is greater than 3mm deep, this is considered periodontal disease. Bacteria colonize this pocket causing infection, inflammation, bone destruction and sometimes an abcess. The results of periodontal disease are early loose teeth, bad breath, and early tooth loss. Having these areas regularly cleaned by a Dental Hygienist along with meticulous home care can keep the periodontal disease from getting worse and allow for healing.
